Recent Things
Telly, books, Frank Trump and some greeting cards
I putting the finishing touches to this post from an apartment overlooking a harbour in Dubrovnik. Our home for the next few nights. It is only 5.30pm but the sun has already set and an inky blackness has settled upon the sea. Lights are twinkling across the hills and I would like to say it is beautifully peaceful. The reality is there is a chorus of barking dogs echoing across the below us. One has taken to howling and seems able to sustain a single note howl for an unnerving length of time. We arrived yesterday and are here for just a few days. Watching the sun come up at home and seeing it go down on the same day but in a completely different country never ceases to amaze me. The ease and privilege of travel is always a thrill.
This week I wanted to share with you some of the things which I have enjoyed recently
This post on Adoption week by Loretta Lupi-Lawrence. Loretta writes candidly about the reality of the state of the childcare system and her personal experience of adoption.
You are probably aware that after an almost 10 year absence from our telly screens, Miranda Hart has recently published a book. Seeing her out and about again reminded me how much I loved her sit com Miranda and I have been working my way through all 3 seasons. My tolerance for gritty dramas, and the bleakness of so much TV is very low and I watch less and less; but 30 mins with the silliness of Miranda and friends is a tonic.
I’m also loving Ludwig staring David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin. A crime show for those who like their crime a little more cozy. The Cambridge setting is a bonus.
Little Wing by Freya North was my book club book this month and it was a complete joy. It had me at ‘set in the Hebrides’. 16 year Flora is banished to a remote Scottish isle in 1969 after becoming pregnant. Nell runs a care in the community cafe in Colchester and Dougie a photographer in London is reluctant to return home. Their stories are woven together with the beautiful isle of Harris at the centre of everything. A gorgeous read.
Off Air with Jane and Fi is one of my favourite podcasts. This episode featuring a surprising interview with Fred Trump, the nephew of D Trump is worth a listen.
I met Kate Cronk the illustrator and founder of Peggy and Kate at a bloggers event some years ago, and have followed her progress on instagram ever since. I love the cards she designs many of which have a seasonal flavour. I especially like this Pumpkin one and this Autumnal one which I recently bought to add to my card stash.
That’s all for now,
Have a lovely week xx

Thank you for the Ludwig recommendation I love cozy crime. One of my favourites is Elly Griffiths have you read any of hers? Those books would make an excellent series I have already cast the main characters lol.
Thanks Vanessa. Thought of you today as I photographed lots of windows strewn with lines of washing!
